Curtains

Interior textiles, rooted in place.

Design

Duncan’s textile design and print service offers a truly bespoke approach to soft furnishings, creating one of a kind fabrics interpreting the story of their surroundings. His patterns may begin with an existing motif relating to the property, or can otherwise be born from researching a name, place or historic tale to spark inspiration. Duncan’s favoured single colour approach lets the pattern speak for itself, honouring its location and making a meaningful contribution to a wider interior scheme.

Print

After researching and developing a design in response to its location, Duncan screen-prints his fabrics by hand. Base fabrics are sourced for each project individually with a focus on natural fibres, and colours may be mixed according to a room’s paint scheme or other furnishings. Once fabric and ink choices are finalised, the rhythmic process of hand-printing takes place. Perfection is not the aim; Duncan’s small-scale process is all aligned by eye, celebrating the irregularities inherent to a truly hand-made product. The resulting quirks enhance the life of the pattern, evidencing the hand of the maker.

Stitch

Once each individually printed fabric length is cured and washed, curtains are often sewn in-house by Duncan. Hand-stitched techniques take precedent, with a variety of linings, headings and finishes available. All production takes place at his workshop in rural Clydesdale for commissions countrywide, with measuring and hanging included in his service as required.

Commissions

Duncan works to commission for projects of any scale – from private homes to public spaces alike – and is available to work directly with individual homeowners or interior designers. To discuss a potential project please get in touch.
