The third instalment of my seasonal collections, this latest Stuart throw is dedicated to Winter.

Designed to evoke the frosty whites of the season, this piece is hand-printed in lichen white on blue heavyweight linen union, edged in a blue wool with flecks of mauve, and finished with hand-stitched detailing. It is uniquely hand-crafted from start to finish as a one-off item taking inspiration from nature’s fading palette at this time of year.

Size: 192cm x 140cm (can be used as a bed runner or over the back of a sofa)

About the pattern:

Stuart draws its name and primary reference from the embroideries of Mary Queen of Scots, specifically an angular thistle she stitched while in captivity. My interpretation began as a lino cut, repeated to create a geometric and semi-abstract interlocking pattern which I hoped might feel at once ancient and modern. I was inspired to make this design after the poignant experience of handling some of Mary’s possessions in the collection at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders, where she visited 1556.

‘Stuart’ draws its name from the embroideries of Mary Queen of Scots, referencing an angular thistle she stitched while in captivity. My interpretation began as a lino cut, which I repeated to create a geometric and semi-abstract interlocking pattern. I was inspired to make this pattern after the poignant experience of handling some of Mary’s possessions kept at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders, where she visited in 1556.

I proudly hand craft these cushions from start to finish in my studio in the Scottish Lowlands. Each is individually screen-printed onto a fine silver grey linen/viscose, and backed in a heavy weave blue linen union. They come complete with a plump feather inner and zip fastening. Limited stock remaining at this special price.

Size: 26″ x 16″ / 66cm x 41cm

Please note that due to the handmade nature of this product, pattern placement on the cushion you receive may vary from that shown in the photograph. Equally, please expect possible variations in print finish and colour between batches.

My classic Tudor pattern, reimagined in a limited rich colourway.

This pattern is inspired by a carved oak screen at Steyning church in West Sussex, crafted to commemorate the marriage of Henry VIII & Catherine of Aragon. I have streamlined their respective insignia of the rose and the pomegranate into a design I hope can feel ancient & modern at the same time, and be interpreted in both figurative and abstract ways. Its motifs have been likened to ‘fossil spirals and ancient downland landforms’, a comparison which bears witness to my time in Sussex researching the archives of one of my favourite designers, Peggy Angus.

I proudly hand craft these cushions from start to finish in my studio in the Scottish Lowlands. Each is individually screen-printed onto a premium weight 100% linen and stitched double-sided for a particularly sumptuous finish. They come complete with a plump feather inner and zip fastening. Limited stock remaining at this special price.

Size: 12″ x 24″ / 30cm x 60cm
