Stuart Throw – summer edition

£465.00

The first in a new series of seasonal works, my Stuart throw is my offering to summer.

Hand-printed in a wildflower-inspired pink on pale green linen, edged in a deep purple wool and finished with hand-stitched detailing, this piece is uniquely hand-crafted from start to finish. I have conceived and created it to harness summer’s energy through the season’s vibrant palette of heather, clover, foxglove and thistle which abound through my local landscape.

Size: 196cm x 194cm (will cover the top of a king size bed)

About the pattern:

Stuart draws its name and primary reference from the embroideries of Mary Queen of Scots, specifically an angular thistle she stitched while in captivity. My interpretation began as a lino cut, repeated to create a geometric and semi-abstract interlocking pattern which I hoped might feel at once ancient and modern. I was inspired to make this design after the poignant experience of handling some of Mary’s possessions in the collection at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders, where she visited 1556.
