Fairburn Cushion in red

£75.00

My Fairburn pattern is inspired by the legend of the Fairburn Calf; a prophecy made by the Brahan Seer in the 17th Century foretelling the decline of the Mackenzie clan. He predicted that they would lose their wealth, their tower would fall to ruin, and a cow would give birth in its uppermost chamber. My design illustrates this strange tale (said to have come true in the 1800s) with the fabled cow first climbing and then descending a spiral of thistles with its calf.

I proudly hand craft these cushions from start to finish in my studio in the Scottish Lowlands. Each is individually screen-printed onto a heavy-weight calico shade of linen union, in a rich red I first mixed for the interiors of a Jacobean gatehouse. They are stitched with a coordinating plain fabric on the reverse and a zip fastening, and come complete with a plump feather inner.

Size: 12″ x 24″ / 30cm x 60cm
